Located near lakes, fishing (access to two public paved boat launch areas within 500 feet of our park), golfing, fishing, and public airpoirt, shopping, antiques, lots of places to eat. Much more close by too... Almost every kind of Auto racing, Rodeos, and shows.
I have stayed there several times when starting or ending a trip. It is a good location. It is quiet & professional. You get good feeling when you arrive to a warm reception. It is far enough off of the beaten path to not hear the noise but close enough to not have to drive out of your way. They have a nice big dog park for my traveling mate.
Best bang for the buck. The park is very affordable. It offers full hookups (including 50 amp), decent wifi, basketball, horseshoes, play area, etc. Level sites. Friendly owners. Quiet location. During the Corona pandemic I stayed a bit late on Sunday morning so I could stream church on their wifi. That alone was worth 5 stars to me.
This is a wonderful campground - small, quiet, easy in and out and closest to I-40 with all the needs for camping including a tornado shelter! Great pizza at the Flying J truck stop and state park nearby. Will be staying again as we travel back and forth on I-40.
The owners of Onapa Campground & RV Park in Checotah, OK are great. We were running from tornadoes when going through Oklahoma in early June and happened to stop at their campground after driving for hours. Since there were tornado alerts that night, they made sure we were alerted and made it into their shelter and stayed until the danger was over. We would stop there again if even to say hello.
The owners have put lot of work into this campground. Clean, well organized. Elec/water/sewer connections first class. Quiet spot - close (3 mi) to I40, easy to find but without noise from the highway. They welcome you like family. Wish we could stay longer.
Owners Chris and Shannon are very hospitable and welcoming. The Park is extremely neat and clean and kept that way through a family of hard workers. We've stayed here the last four nights and find that we are actually saddened to leave. The services are first rate, the laundry room clean and well equipped. Friendly, welcoming and accommodating. High ratings!
